Course Overview & Intent
The flagship offering of the School of Hatha Yoga is the 200-Hour residential Teacher Training Course. It is an intensive 28-day journey designed to cultivate physical health, mental clarity, and deep self-discipline.
It is demanding: It requires consistent participation, early rises, and mauna (noble silence) hours. It is not a vacation or a retreat. It is suitable for practitioners aged 16–80, both absolute beginners looking for a solid foundation and advanced practitioners wanting to clarify alignment and scriptural theories.
Syllabus & Curriculum Units
The theoretical and practical syllabus is divided into three primary units, aligning with YCB (Government of India) and Yoga Alliance standards:
Unit 1: Introduction to Yoga and Yogic Practices
Covers etymology, aims, and common misconceptions of yoga. Explores development through the ages, and life sketches of Masters (Ramana Maharshi, Swami Vivekananda). Practical foundations include joint movement series (Sukshma Vyayama), Surya Namaskara, cleansing kriyas (Shatkarmas), and Bihar-style systematic relaxation (Yoga Nidra).
Unit 2: Introduction to Yoga Texts
Deep scriptural studies in Upanishads (Panchakosha five sheaths theory), Bhagavad Gita (Sthitaprajna mental equilibrium, and healthy habits), Patanjali's Yoga Sutras (8 Limbs, mind states), and Hatha Yoga texts (mitahara moderate diet, wholesome foods, relationship between Hatha and Raja Yoga).
Unit 3: Yoga for Wellness
Anatomical science review of the 9 major human body systems and homeostasis. Yogic physiology concepts covering Tridoshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), tissue layers (Sapta Dhatu), and digestion (Agni). Also explores stress management, seasonal routines (Ritucharya), and mental hygiene.
Practical Training (Asanas & Kriyas)
- Kriyas (Detox): Sutra & Jala Neti, Dhauti (Vamana/Kunjal), and Kapalbhati (Vatakrama).
- Asanas (45+ Postures): Focus on precise skeletal alignment and safety. Includes Tadasana, Trikonasana, Katichakrasana, Paschimottanasana, Vakrasana, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Pavanamuktasana, and progressive variations.
- Breathing Control: Sectional breathing, Ujjayee, Sheetalee, Sitkaree, and Bhramaree.
